Closure Note From DJ Premier:
Just in case y’all forgot, I base my list on:
1) Beats selection
2) Lyrics and content that make sense
3) Flows and wordplay and your voice
4) I don’t care how many records you sold and how much your record was played on commercial radio, I live hip hop culture and I respect my pioneers that allowed me to do hip hop as a career
5) Concepts and overall body of making a full LP including the sequence of how your LP flows is so important when I pop it in my sound systemI still judge listening to music on either a boom box or driving in my ride, no iPods and shit. I stick to tradition of how hip hop was played when it made an impact on my life.
As I say every year, if you don’t like my list, fuck it make your own!
One note I will make: I meant to list the Game’s “Jesus Piece” in my list and it was an oversight so I won’t change this list because of my mistake. I still wanted to make a note of it being that I liked his album and I’m still bumpin it in the ride.
Let the hate begin…
“Be Glad or Be Mad” -DJ Premier
DJ Premier’s Top 25 of 2011
DJ Premier’s Top 25 of 2010
DJ Premier’s Top 20 of 2009
Apollo & O.C. first! they fcking deserved it …dope album !
Apollo is a beast with those beats and O.C. a lyrical master…
‘Dice Game’ and Ab-Soul’s ‘Control System’ definately my favourites of last year. Worth check it out if you haven’t done so.
hm very strange list drop rick ross, kendrick lamar and the nas album (cause it was wack) and its kinda alright but what about^large professor – professor @ large ? beneficence – concrete soul ? purpose and confidence – the purpose of confidence ?
Good seeing Mugshot Music in a list, that went over a lot of heads, same with Public Enemy, they put out 2 albums in 2012, both were ill! Don’t know if you read the comments but if you do check out Homeboy Sandman’s ‘First of a living breed’, nothing short of amazing.
Fit Fashawn in there and its perfect
i agree APOLLO & O.C. FIRST! GREETINGS FROM CHILE!
the most popular comment will be:
RICK ROSS???!!!! lol
Agree with #1 and gotta add Timeless Truth “Rock-It Science”
Peace!
BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR 01. O.C. & Apollo Brown – Trophies YES INDEED!!! Agree 100% with that one.
KA “Grief Pedigree” could have fit on this list too 🙂

wow you missed the single release that really mattered this year – Ricanstruction by Chino XL, of course you didn’t miss on retarded raps such as Risk Ross though…
you’re losing credibility man

As much as i love Preme, i never take these list seriously. I dont understand his love affair with 9th wonder for the life me. Wonder years was # 2 last year and this year he puts the 9th & buckshot before roc marciano? The murs album before action bronson? nah playa
I think Craig G should’ve made the list it’s a shame his album is going unnoticed
Craig G should have been at least in the top 10 shame!!!

Where’s Reks?
Straight, No Chaser was the bomb.
I’m sure Premo forgot Reks just like most did.

Rick Ross?, Slaughterhouse???
Remember me to never let DJ Premier take me on a ride.
No clue how the Ricanstruction is on that list. Top 3 without a doubt. Take off Rick Ross & put Chino Xl on there & its not a bad list at all.

Both of Reks albums should be up there but Apollo Brown and O.C. is Number 1 without a Doubt but i think that Rapsody should be on the list too her album was straight fire
PROPS FOR YOU PREMO
No Oddisee?!! People Hear what they see.
[…] FREE album a 5/10… IMO, Mandatory Brunch Meeting is one of the best albums of the year and according to DJ Premier it is too… So let’s think about it for a second… Arguably the best hiphop […]
btw
where the fuck was Oddisee’s – People Hear What They say???
someone call premier up and slap him with this album 🙂
The nerve of yall. This is Premo. The pure sound of hip-hop. And y’all bitchin? Id like to see what music yall ever put out. Bet it aint shit. I trust this list because i copped every album he posted up and they are dope as hell. Shut up until you can out D.J. or out produce Premo. I see you fan. Westside rollin’ wit Premo til the end bro.
2) Lyrics and content that make sense
3) Flows and wordplay and your voice
Then how Rick Ross’ album is on here is beyond me. Switch the orders around & add The Ricanstruction & REBELutionary then we’ll talk.
this is the reason why you aren.t producers or dj`s because your jugdes are wrong, preem is a pro ,when you ll make what he made then you ll make the rules
Premo’s one of best ever but his top 25s the past few years always have a few on there that make you say wtf? I thought Rasheed Chappell and Kenny Dopes album F.B.N. along with Apollo/OC’s Trophies have been the two best albums of the past decade. Drake and Rick Ross albums will never bump in my whip or box…sorry Premo. I’m a hater and proud of it. Gangstarr bumps at least once a month for life though 🙂
GOOD FUCKING LIST PREMO! RESPECT FOR INCLUDING THE REAL SHIT AND NOT THE WACK ASS SHIT THAT THE RADIO PLAYS!
