Big Shug & DJ Premier Planning To Release A Collective Album

Yes, Big Shug himself dropped the news in a recent interview done with claaa7:

c7: All the way from your earliest 12″s and up to all your retail albums, DJ Premier has played a pivotal role in crafting the sound. Do you think it would be accurate to describe Preemo as your main producer?

Shug: Well, not really because what it is is, we’re brothers and we’re the legacy of Gang Starr, so that’s why we make sure to have a few songs on every album. Always letting people know that we have a good sound and great chemistry. Also we’re gonna do a collective album just the two of us, so that’s another thing in the can.

We go back and we’re family, you know, but as far as doing records I get a lot of different people, and Premier produces for everyone; but if you listen to the songs that him and I make there’s a chemistry there and a certain type of sound, so he’s always gonna be there, you know we’re always gonna make stuff together.

c7: That’s interesting you mention a full project with Premier as that is definitely something people been fiending for. What are the plans for its recording and when should we be looking out for that?

Shug: We’ll start working on that very soon, we’re gonna go on the road right after my album comes out – probably me, DJ Premier and Bumpy Knuckles. But as soon as we come back, me and him are gonna start working on that album; that’s definietly something that we’ll do.

Limited Lord Finesse “Inconsiderate Females (DJ Premier 1989 Demo Session)” 5inch now Available to Pre-Order

For all you vinyl junkies, Slice-of-Spice records now accepting orders for the 5inch disc of the ultra rare and unreleased DJ Premier & Lord Finesse track “Inconsiderate Females”. It’s only available in limited edition on sliceofspice.bigcartel.com/category/pre-orders. The release is on August 15th! For collectors only…

“What you have right here is the start of a song created during the making of the Funky Technician LP, that was never finished. Lyrically, it was actually parts of a live routine that I was trying to convert into a song for the album. DJ Premier found the loop and started putting the track together, but once Stu Fine (Wild Pitch Records owner) heard the track he immediately made me stop recording due to the extremely raw content. So this unfinished track remained stashed for over 20 years until recently. It’s funny ‘cos listening to it now makes me wonder what the hell I was thinking [Laughing]. I’m personally glad Stu & DJ Premier made me change my mind, but the track is now being released as an extremely rare limited edition promo. You can thank Rich (Slice Of Spice) for the constant persuasion ‘cos if it was left to me I’d have left it buried in the stash!” -Lord Finesse

Big Shug New Album “I.M. 4-EVA” Tracklist, Cover & Release Date Revealed

His name says it all; standing at well over six feet tall and with the intimidating muscular build of a linebacker, Big Shug’s physical presence alone is enough to command attention. His voice, a hoarse rumble effective for delivering both fearsome threats or smooth crooning as his alter-ego Shugie Diamonds, is one of rap’s most instantly recognizable. As both a solo artist and founding member of Gang Starr, his name has consistently shown up in album credits alongside hip-hop’s elite for over 20 years.

But despite that, Shug has never courted the spotlight. As countless other rappers, and even Gang Starr themselves, fell by the wayside, he has persevered through fans’ evolving tastes and a changing record industry by staying true to the ideals – integrity, respect for the streets and love of music – that have fueled his career. Nowhere is that more apparent than on I.M. 4-EVA.

Stitching together the various parts of his career into one, this album, true to its title, is a comprehensive look at who Big Shug is, where he came from and where he is going. With his bruising flow over classic DJ Premier produced cuts bringing back nostalgic 90s memories, he pays tribute to the fans who have stuck with him since the beginning. I.M. 4-Eva – Shug’s fourth solo album and his first since 2008’s Other Side of the Game – marks the next chapter in his ongoing maturation as an artist. The album reunites Shug with old friends like M.O.P., Fat Joe and Premier, while also connecting with a new generation of hip-hop fans via collaborations with Reks, Termanology, Singapore Kane and Slaine.

In addition to the 17 all new studio cuts Brick Records has presented a timeless package; a hard back, 36 page book chronicling the true history of Gang Starr as told by Big Shug, plus anecdotes from his 20+ year career, rare never before seen vintage photos and more. Through his words and his music, Big Shug truly shows here why he is 4-EVA.
