Wild Pitch Records Tribute: Rarities & More

This post is a tribute to Wild Pitch Records. Gang Starr’s label from ’89 till ’90.

Wild Pitch Records was a hip hop record label started in the mid 1980s by Stuart Fine and was eventually distributed by EMI and eventually acquired by Jay Faires, who tried to reactivate it as part of his short-lived JCOR Entertainment label. Artists who released records under this label include Main Source, Lord Finesse, Ultramagnetic MCs, Chill Rob G, Gang Starr, UMC’S, O.C., Brokin English Klik, Hard knocks, and the Coup. Since the majority of its albums were released in the early 90’s and went out of print, Wild Pitch re-released their catalog on April 22, 2008.

I was boring through my hard disc and this popped up. Some never released/rarities/promos/demos from Wild Pitch just before they wrapped the label up. I remember downloading it years back on some vintage old skool forum LOL. The recordings have a date range from 1995 to 1997. The quality sound isn’t that great though. But I thought it would be fun to share, very interesting ;). 90s Hip Hop >>> my/your life.

O.C. & MC Serch – Awsome Two Radio Promo

O.C. – Outsiders

Ce-Styles – N.B.A.

O.C. & MC Serch – Tech & Sway Wake Up Show Radio Promo

Disorderly Conduct (Swing & Bamboo) – Out Da Picture

Foul Play – Conversation

Large Professor – Spacey (Feat. Vandemator & Royal Flush) (Demo Version)

Foul Play – That’s How It Be (Feat. Rock of Heltah Skeltah)

Chill Rob G – Questions

Ce-Style – Moonshine

Real hip hop is a movement, nobody can stop it. Just saying. Now that I think about it, kinda weird how interested I am in 90s hip hop… or am I not the only one? haha.

New Unreleased Big L & O.C. Freestyle at Blackout Show (1997)

Who’s a hip hop junkie like me? (Clearly the whole hip hop world the day I posted that lol) It’s always cool to hear a new freestyle from my favorite mc. This one is recorded when Big L & O.C. visited Zagreb, Croatia in 1997. They visited the Blackout Show that was hosted by Phat Phillie. Word is that there is more material of that visit. Enjoy:

Shout out to zibla01 and my homie Phat Phillie who’s still running Croatia!

R.I.P. Big L, Legendary!

Here you have the lyrics

Roscoe P. Coldchain – Im’ma Kill This Nigga (Feat. AB Liva) [CDQ]

Mmmm..finally!! Time going fast, but now we have a NO DJ version. Rascoe is a crazy fella. Far far away from being fake. This joint is reality… It was recorded around 2004 but only saw the light of day throughout mixtapes. And 4 years later he was arrested for double murder. Before the arresting he was talking about doing more DJ Premier joints for his debut album as I remember. Life’s crazy… I doubt we’ll ever see another collabo. DJ Premier x Philadelphia connection, enjoy:

THAT SAMPLE!

H. Stax (of F.A.B.I.D.) – Get It In (Mixtape Rip) [FULL]

We could already hear a short snippet of this track back in 2006, when PF Cuttin’ played it. Now he played the full version on one of his new mixtapes. 5 year later… Enjoy:

This track stays a jewel. It suppose to be on F.A.B.I.D. album that never gotten released through the years, but I’ve heard H. Stax is currently back recording. He visited Marco Polo’s studio a couple of times. Hopefully we hear more about that in 2011… Btw, H. Stax is the guy who did one of the hardest freestyles over a DJ Premier beat ever.

Exclusive: DJ Premier – JJ Beat (Rejected Kanye West Beat) CDQ

What do we have here? Aaaaah yes, a beat specially made for Kanye West when he requested some for his “Dark Twisted Fantasy” album. Sad he never used is though… Later on it was also given to Bun B, but also he didn’t record on it… That’s the history behind it, now it’s known as the “JJ Beat”. Btw: another beat that Kanye West didn’t used went to Bumpy Knuckles for the collabo album “The Kolexion”. Masterpiece, listen up:

Now we can only hope Jay-Z pick some Premo beats for his collabo album!

EDIT: You have to know the beat was rejected because Kanye West changed the direction of his album… this was created when everybody thought he was going to make that “Boom Bap” album.
